Behind the Scenes at the UCI – Simon Burney

April 20, 2018

We’ve got something a little bit different for you in this episode. With the first round of the UCI Downhill World Cup taking place this coming weekend, I thought it would be good to get to hear a bit about what goes on behind the scenes at the UCI. The UCI often get a hard time about the lack of races, the quality of the venues and tracks, but what really goes on to put together the amazing racing that we all love to watch. So we sat down with Simon Burney, the man on the ground at all the UCI mountain bike races, to find out more. We talk about Simon’s own background in racing, as well as his time in performance management in British Cycling. We cover the impact that Red Bull media house has had on the sport, what the technical delegates do at a the races, and wether or not Schaldming will ever be a World Cup venue again (fingers crossed!).
